2023 Prism Awards – OJHS honored to receive our 60 Years of Service Award!

In May of 2023, OJHS attended the Prism Awards event held by the Maumee Bay Chamber of Commerce at Maumee Bay State Park. OJHS was honored to receive our 60 Years of Service AWARD! It was such a special night for the Oregon Jerusalem Historical Society!

FINDING YOUR ROOTS – Genealogy Workshops with Kelley Amstutz, The Genealogy Investigator

(Spring 2023)

OJHS hosted FINDING YOUR ROOTS, a six-workshop Genealogy Event hosted by The Genealogy Investigator, Kelley Amstutz that began in March and wrapped in May of 2023!

Students learned How to Write Their Story, Tackling a Research Project, Proving or Disproving Family Stories, How to Use Census Records, Death Record Research, & How to Get Started with Family Trees.

2023 Annual Rummage Sale at Brandville

In May, OJHS had our Annual Rummage Sale! There were so many great finds and we are so thankful for all our volunteers for their help with this great event!!!

Herb & Gardening Class with Cindy Bench, Bench Farms

On Thursday, April 20th, 2023, Cindy Bench, from Bench Farms spread her knowledge with classes on Herbs and Gardening at the Jerusalem Township Fire Hall.

Parade of Trees and Cookies & Selfies with Santa

Nine beautifully decorated, individualized themed Christmas Trees, will be on display and up for auction.

Raffle tickets for the Parade of Trees are priced at $5 dollars for every 7 tickets purchased. Ticket holders will bid for their desired tree (or trees) by placing their tickets in buckets that accompany each tree.

Winners will be drawn at 2:30 pm and arrangements will be made for each winner to pick up their tree and decorations.

The trees featured have all been sponsored by OJHS corporate members, whose contributions have helped us continue to serve our community.

Besides the decorated trees, there will be other auction items and “buy now” items for sale. The gift shop will also be open so you can continue your Christmas Shopping at Brandville School.

This is a fundraiser for Oregon-Jerusalem Historical Society, all raffle tickets purchased will directly benefit OJHS

2022 OJHS Tour of
Distinctive Homes

“Tour of Distinctive Homes,” presented by Oregon-Jerusalem Historical Society on December 3rd is part of OJHS’ holiday programming.

Take a journey through our area by touring six beautifully decorated Oregon homes, new and old. The tour begins at Brandville School on December 3rd where guests will pick up their tickets, brochure, and driving map for the event. Guests will also be able visit the Parade of Trees exhibit and purchase tickets for auction. All nine trees will be raffled off that day and nine people/families will get a fully decorated themed Christmas Tree to take home for the holidays.

Tour Fee is $15 per person

Reservations with payment can be made ahead of time using cash or check by calling Connie at (419) 367-5254 or Nancy (419) 270-1654.

Tickets can also be reserved through the OJHS website at ojhs.org or purchased the day of the event before 2:30 pm.

Apple Butter Stir

October 8th & 9th 2022

Our volunteers gathered to core, peel, and stir apples to create OJHS’ traditional apple butter. Proceeds from Homemade Apple Butter Sales benefit Clay High School Scholarships

OJHS First Families Program

October 20th 2022

Our First Families Program shared family history from area families that have been in the Oregon-Jerusalem area for generations. Presented by a great granddaughter, Elaine Pickerel, we were introduced to the Thomas Ames Family as one of our Pioneer Families who arrived before 1860. Another branch of the Ames Family is the Bench Family, who OJHS presented with a certificate. Presented by Linda Bench Rossler, the Benchs have been feeding families in this community for three generations. Starting in 1942 with Charles and Margaret Bench who had four children and their four grandchildren followed them into farming creating a lasting legacy in our area.

Author’s Event with Thomas Walton

September 20th 2022

Featuring Thomas Walton, author of “Life As We Know It, (Some Assembly Required)”

A 1961 Clay High School Graduate and recipient of the distinguished Clay High Alumnae Award in 2014, retired Vice President & Editor of The Blade.

“Life As We Know It” is a hilarious look at the good days, the bad days, and going half-mad days we all encounter on life’s journey. Tom will have you laughing out loud at life’s funny every-day moments with his compelling and humorous storytelling.

Ladies Formal Tea

September 8th & 13th 2022

Oregon Jerusalem Historical Society Presents the Late Summer Ladies Formal Tea which took place on September 8th and September 13th 2022 in the Brandville Museum.

Presenting an important Woman in History – Ruth Handler who is the co-founder of Mattel and creator of the Barbie Doll. Ruth was portrayed in a captivating first person monologue by Krisi Vadnais while our attendees enjoyed a delightful afternoon tea.

The event chair, Cyndi Reynolds utilized Barbie Pink throughout the décor and a light luncheon included member contributed teas, scones, savories, and assorted sweets.
